How to plan a campaign photoshoot

Campaign photography should be planned around how the images will be used, not just what looks good on the day.

Define the campaign goal

A launch, show announcement, recruitment campaign and album release all need different visual emphasis. Start with what the campaign needs people to understand or do.

Create a shot list by format

List the practical outputs: website banner, poster image, square social post, portrait story crop, press image or thumbnail. This makes the shoot more useful.

Make styling part of the brief

Clothing, props, colour and location should support the message. They do not need to be overcomplicated, but they should be intentional.

Resolve permissions early

If the shoot uses a venue, workplace, public space or other people, check permissions and release requirements before the day.

Select images with the campaign in mind

The strongest standalone image may not be the most useful campaign image. Choose a set that gives range, clarity and enough variation for repeated use.
