What makes a good promotional photoshoot for artists

A good artist photoshoot gives you images that can carry a release, show, announcement or campaign across several platforms.

Start with the artist identity

The shoot should understand the artist’s tone before deciding lighting, styling or location. A cabaret performer, musician and theatre-maker may all need very different visual language.

Plan the asset list

Think beyond one favourite portrait. Useful shoots often create press images, social crops, website banners, poster-friendly frames and behind-the-scenes material.

Choose a location with intention

A studio, venue, rehearsal room or exterior location each sends a different signal. The location should support the project rather than just fill the background.

Build variation into the session

Small changes in lighting, pose, outfit and framing can create a much larger set of usable assets. This helps the campaign avoid repeating the same image too quickly.

Deliver images for real use

Ask for files that fit where they are going: landscape crops for web banners, portrait crops for stories, square crops for feeds and high-resolution files for press or print.
